Marvellous Marvin Monday

Marvin is still being extremely snuggly.  All of this week's photos are close-ups, or extreme close-ups, as a result.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

I'm not sure what's up, but Marvin has been particularly snuggly this week.  Don't get me wrong, he's a always been a cuddly cat, but his week he's been following me around whining.  Usually when that happens it's because he wants a treat.  This week it's because he wants me to sit down so he can curl up on my lap.  Once he's there it's hard to get him to move.

I don't know if it's the colder weather, or if the return of the wildfire smoke has stressed him out.  Whatever the reason it's giving me an excuse to lounge on the sofa.  I could get used to living life like a cat.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose the photo below for this week's Marvellous Marvin Monday.

Look at that sweet face, and those gorgeous eyes.  That's the face of a cat who is lulling me into a false sense of security so he can steal my spot on the sofa.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

Once again, my sister chose a series of photos for this week's Marvellous Marvin Monday:

Marvin is runninng in circles hunting dust bunnies.

"I'm gonna get you yyyyeeeetttt!!" he yowls as he slips and spins on the laminate floor.

When he spins to a stop Marvin pauses to think.

"I know that bunny went that way.  I'm just going to slither over until I find it's hiding place, then I'm going to pounce and bunnies will scatter everywhere!"

"Scattered bunnies are going to take a lot of work to catch.  I better have a snack first. I'll use my hypnovision on Mom."

"Darn.  She seems immune to my powers. In fact, she seems to be mocking me.  Hmmf, I'm going to my Kingdom."

"Marvin this and Marvin that, wait until she hears my proclamation when I get to the top of Kingdom CAT."

Marvin surveys his realm from the top of Kingdom Cat.  All seems to be  well. But wait! What is this he sees?  REAL BUNNIES! They must be there for him.  THEIR KING.

Or maybe they're just eating Dad's garden.

Either way, Marvin puts on his fiercest face, stands tall and proud and announces, "I"LL GET YOU MY PRETTIES!".

Then he spins toward the dust bunnies now floating teasingly behind him.  He gives his best scary face and states in he most ferocious voice, "AND YOUR LITTLE BUNNIES TOO!"

Marvellous Marvin Monday

Once again, my sister chose a series of pictures for this week's Marvellous Marvin Monday.  Marvin's story, as told to my sister, follows:

Mom was writing earlier today at this desk. She was on her pushy-key thing to make letters and write. She must have been taking a class. Sometimes she wrote, and sometimes she talked to other writers, and sometimes the other writers talked.  It was confusing. When all the talking and writing was just about done, I heard her say something about "Marvin".  Then everyone laughed! I had to see what she writing, but she kept pushing me out of the way.  I couldn't see anything.

Huh, finally, after I waited forever, she stopped writing and left. I jumped on the desk and looked for her pushy-key thing that she uses for writing and IT WAS GONE. The writing must be in this red contraption. I tried and tried to open it, but I couldn't get it open.  I was so sad.  I was desperate to know what she said. It was too much for me and I had to lie down.

I stayed like this for a while thinking "What to do, what to do...think, think,  think...", but I couldn't think of anything that would open the red contraption to see what mom was writing.  Why did everyone laugh and laugh at me? I couldn't help it.  I threw back my  head and let out a heart-wrenching cry because I couldn't open the red contraption.

Mom finally came home with her pushy-key thing for writing and set it up again to her writing page. I felt pretty silly though. After all that wondering, and sneaking, and worrying what everyone was saying about me, I heard Mom tell Dad that the writing group was having so much  fun with my photos and stories on the blog. They hoped that the "talent" was getting better at translating for me, because they enjoyed following along so much.

I feel so silly!  Maybe I won't tell anyone about my afternoon of worrying.

Wait! What! You've been recording this!  Oh no!  I bet you're going to post it, right? I better get over it now.  The talent must be getting better at translating.  That's a good thing and a bad thing, I think.  For me anyway.  I'm glad she's feeling a bit better though.

Thanks for reading!

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose a series of photos for this week's Marvellous Marvin Monday:

"Stay away from my open window, or I will bite your neck."

"Tasty, I told  you I'd bite your  neck."

"Biting necks makes me sleepy. I  think I'll nap on the King's spot. The warm, carpeted spot that let's me balance between cat castle and window. The lady of the house better let visitors know not to close the window if the cat is in it, because they'll be attacked by the devil cat. Approaching him anywhere else is fine,  but if you find him in the open window you may want to wait."

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose this photo for today's Marvellous Marvin Monday:

The story:

Marvin is lying in front of the screen door humming songs about lying on the floor with the sun on his back.

"You, you light  up my life, you give me...no, no, no, that's not it, what song am I thinking of?  Hmm, oh, oh, I  got it I,  I got it."

Marvin looks up at Mom who is in the kitchen and hums, "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy..."

"What, Mom, don't pet me, you're blocking my sunshine!, Ah, did you think I was humming to you, and you were my 'sunshine'? Sorry."

Marvin puts his head back down but Mom can hear him humming "you are my sunshine..." as she goes through the screen door.

Marvin thinks "She sat down in the sun with a drink and a book. She's got more sun than I do.  She will be out there forever!"

"Mom! Hey Mom! Can I come sit in the sun with you? I was joking. You really are my sunshine!"

Hubby took this picture, so it is very possible that I was out on the deck and Marvin was less than pleased about it.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose this photo for today's Marvellous Marvin Monday:

She thinks Marvin is saying:

"Hey! Hey, you there! Hey you, up here on MY deck! Who do you think you are? Just who do you think you are sitting there, looking at me, looking at you, looking at me!!! SHOO!!!"

🐱🐾

That sums up Marvin's attitude toward visitors in his yard quite accurately.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

This week's story, as told to my sister by Marvin:

Mom doesn't know this, but Dad and I have worked out a great plan together. Hopefully Mom never finds out, or we'll be in BIG trouble. See, Dad doesn't exactly like all of Mom's cooking, and I'm a feline garbage truck. I will eat anything. Once they sit down to eat, I slither over, hide under Dad's chair, then I stick my head out where Mom can't see me.  I open my mouth...

... and Dad drops food down into my mouth.  Mom doesn't suspect anything, and everyone is happy, happy, happy.

And here I thought Hubby and I had agreed not to give Marvin people-food!

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose a series of photos for this week's Marvellous Marvin Monday.  She imagines that waking Marvin  is much like waking a teenager.

Her story:

Marvin hears you in the distance saying, "Marvin, honey, it's time to get up",

He  slowly opens his eyes, then he hears,  " Are you up Marvin, we have lots to do". Marvin responds with one of his biggest yawns yet.

Marvin hears pots and pans banging in the kitchen, and decides he doesn't want any part of that, so he settles back down and starts to drift back to sleep.

Marvin thinks he hears a soft pad, pad, pad coming closer.  It stops, then there's a soft tap, tap, tap, followed by,  "MARVIN, GET UP! NOW!  Marvin's eyes pop right open.

...no one knows what happens next because the writer has no other photos of this scene.

If I remember correctly, much like a teenager, Marvin went right back to sleep after the last photo was taken.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose this photo for today's Marvellous Marvin Monday:

Her story:

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Marvin (thinking): Huh? Whaaa?  Is she banging pots and pans over my head?  WHOA!  What's with the bright light?  Why is she YELLING?

Me (yelling): What is that dark stain seeping out from under your box?!?

Marvin blinks his eyes wide open (thinking): Think Marvin.  Think.  What happened last night?  OH NO! I remember.  I had a friend over.  Then I invited a few more friends and all of a sudden it was a party.

Marvin (whining): Nothing happened!  I went to bed early.

Me: Well something happened after I went to bed.  Let's go check the security cameras.

Marvin: Noooo!  I did it.  I had a few friends over.

Me: Next time, clean up afterwards, and let us know if friends are coming over.  Oh, and here's some carpet cleaner for the stain you are trying to cover with your box.  You need to get up NOW, and wake up any friends still hiding around here.  You can all clean up the house that you trashed last night.

The end

Great story, but Marvin does not tolerate other cats, so the it's unlikely that there's going to be a feline party any time soon.  It does concern me that my sister thinks the pattern peeking out from under Marvin's box is a stain.  Perhaps it's time to replace the area rug with something a bit more stylish.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose this picture for Marvellous Marvin Monday:

She thinks Marvin is upset because I interrupted his bath.  She imagines the scenario went something like this:

"HEY", Marvin shouts. "GET OUT OF HERE! Never have I ever done that to you! You have no respect for me!  Get out!  I'm having a bath!"

You're dumbfounded and turn to give him the privacy he demanded.  Then you realize what he's saying and stop in your tracks.

"First thing,"  you say, "don't ever talk to me like that. Remember who feeds you!  Second, you have definitely come in while I'm taking a bath. You aren't shy about it.  You play with the bubbles and push the cold, wet, shower curtain against me. And that's in spite of the closed door. It's going to be closed and locked from now on. No more pulling my fluffy, white towel off the rack,  rolling on it and getting black cat hair all over it.

You, my dear cat, if you deserved the privacy you don't give to others, wouldn't get it anyway.    YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAMILY ROOM,  IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUCH, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, IN YOUR BIRTHDAY SUIT, HAVING A BATH! IF YOU WANT PRIVACY, YOU GET OUT OF HERE!"

The reality wasn't nearly so dramatic.  Marvin just glanced at me then continued licking his butt.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose this picture because she thinks it looks like Marvin has me trapped in a box.  She thinks he's saying, "You think it's cute and funny when I'm in a box and you close the lid and hold it shut. Well, payback is a _itch mommy."

That actually sounds like something my sister would do!

Besides, we only shut  Marvin in a box when we take him in his carrier to the vet.  That's traumatic enough for all of us.

Marvin is actually checking out the box that contained his new cat-tree.

We both agree Marvin is a very spoiled cat.

Correction

Management has been informed that the wrong photo was posted on June 22 for Marvellous Marvin Monday.  You will find the correct photo below:

Management would like to point out that Marvin's cheeks always look "puffy, and squeezable, and fluffy".  And, though he does look more bunny-like in this photo, management still does not see teeth.  Perhaps management needs new glasses.

Management apologises for the error.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose this photo for Marvelous Marvin Monday.

She chose it because she thinks Marvin looks like he is auditioning to be the new Cadbury Easter Bunny.  He is saying,"See how long my ears look when I lay like this. And my cheeks look so puffy, and squeezable, and fluffy." She even thinks you can see his bunny teeth - proof that Marvin can be the Cadbury Easter Bunny.

Marvin could be thinking that, as Marvin generally thinks he can do whatever he wants.  He's a cat.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

My sister chose this photo for Marvellous Marvin Monday.

The other pictures I sent featured more Marvin, but she thought this one best depicted what a silly cat he is.  She also wanted to point out that Marvin needed his nails trimmed.  She's right. He did. By the time she received the photo he had already had a pedicure.

Thankfully, Marvin doesn't mind having his nails trimmed.  In fact, I get the impression he'd be a wouldn't be opposed to the full spa treatment.  He's typically cat-like in his need to be pampered.

Prove Me Wrong

Yesterday I accused Marvin of un-catlike behaviour.  He immediately proved me wrong.  The box he ignored became the focus of his attention.  I think he even slept in it last night.

His contrariety proves is, in fact, a very catlike cat.

Marvellous Marvin Monday

Marvin was in good form this week.  I sent five pictures to my sister.  Her choice:

Her thoughts:

It looks like the pillows behind his head are bunny ears and he's saying,  "Oh please. Just because you put crooked bunny ears on me, you can't make me hoppity hop into a box. I'm a sophisticated cat not a cute little bunny, I don't hippity hop, I gracefully lunge into a box, like a prima ballerina, WHEN I want to jump in a box."

Her thoughts are fairly close to reality.  Marvin sniffed at the box, then ignored it.  Of all the cats we've had in our home, he's the least interested in boxes.  His lack of enthusiasm is practically un-catlike.

Marvelous Marvin Monday

Marvin was much more photogenic this week.  My sister had five pictures to choose from.  She selected the one below, because his stretched-out neck reminded her of someone on the executioner's block. She thinks he's begging for mercy.
Please don't behead me. I didn't mean to do ...whatever he did...I'll be good again, I promise. Please!!!!! Remember how cute I am and how much you love me? Remember how you came into the shelter and our eyes met and locked? There was compassion in those eyes. Please have compassion now...it...wasn't that bad...please don't chop off my head!!!

In reality, he's irritated because I woke him from his nap to take a picture.  Besides, my sister should know that I'm too squeamish to decapitate anything.  The worst punishment Marvin ever gets it a strong scolding, or perhaps some forced snuggling.
