Jeans!

I've finally crawled cautiously onto the skinny-jean bandwagon. I first tried on a pair about three years ago, but didn't get them. I felt I was too old for skinny jeans. Obviously logic dictates that I buy a pair now, because I've gotten so much younger in the last three years. Whatever.

I'm glad I waited, as unlike the jeans I tried on years ago, these ones are Canadian-made. And I was able to get them locally at Be, where the sales staff is so much more helpful and friendly than the snooty woman in the big-city store last time around. Like shopping for jeans isn't traumatic enough without judgemental sales staff. Yeesh.

These pictures were taken after a long day of driving, shopping and dining. The jeans were very comfortable, yet they didn't feel like they got baggy anywhere. Hooray!

Though they fit well everywhere else, the jeans were rather long. This usually frustrates me. I am capable of hemming pants; I just don't like to. As a result, items can linger for months, and sometimes years, waiting for me to alter them. This time I set aside the I-should-do-it-myself attitude and found a seamstress to shorten the jeans for me. Hallelujah!

It's ridiculous how excited I am to finally let go of that mentality! I may have frightened the seamstress in my enthusiasm. Oops.

  2. Thanks Patti. Buying local can be a challenge in a small town, but I think I'm getting better at it. If nothing else, it helps to keep me from over-buying.

  3. LOL -- I was saying this kind of thing to someone recently. She was worried she was too old for something and I was like "Betcha you'll be wearing it years from now so cut to the chase!"

    1. Hi Wendy! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

I had a friend tell me almost the same thing when I first tried on skinny jeans. Too bad I didn't listen. I hope your friend showed greater wisdom than I did!

  4. Love the name...Yoga Jeans...and they're in three retail stores within a stone's throw. The thrift stores are my first love, but I'm willing to cheat a little from time to time. And lest you think otherwise...I am very good, a master really, at procrastinating when it comes to hemming pants! So bravo for just stepping up and getting a seamstress to hem for you. If she does sleeve hems well, never let her go!

    1. Hi Sue! I'm a bit slow getting on the thrifting bandwagon. I sense a theme here... I have yet to attempt to try on pants/jeans at the thrift shops. Tops, jackets, skirts and dresses tend to be where I gravitate. I'm sure I'll get to the trouser aisle eventually, just like I finally got to the skinny jeans.

Oh, and my seamstress does sleeves. I'm heading to her shop later today to pick up the bag of items I left with her last week. I can't tell you how tickled I was when I realized I could have sleeves and pant legs that are the right length.

  5. Here, darling, take my hand and I'll help you get on the skinny-wagon! Good for you. Ignore the biatches on the sales floor. You look fabulous ... and look at you stylin' that very pretty blouse.
At 5', I've never had any that didn't need altering. I just fold under most of my skinnies, but nowadays I just roll um' up and go for it.
So happy to see our Onion Girl showing off another of her many lovely layers! Good for you. You look fabulous.

    1. Why thank you Jan! This getting dressed thing gets much more challenging and confusing and exciting when I realize that I don't have to settle for good enough. I'll take all the help I can get!

  6. A well fitted pair of jeans is a MUST and like you I always have to have the hem altered. Oh, well.. what can I say, I am simply vertically challenged!

    1. Vertically challenged. I like that. I can't believe it's taken me so long to realized that it's OK to let someone else alter my clothes. That opens so many more options for me!
